CAREER ROUTE

Lifelong Learning Route

A cycle of monitoring changing tasks, mapping skill gaps, running small learning experiments and producing workplace evidence.

PURPOSE OF THE ROUTE

Build an evidence chain rather than choosing a title

A cycle of monitoring changing tasks, mapping skill gaps, running small learning experiments and producing workplace evidence.

A career route is not a one-time decision. It is a living file containing a starting point, compulsory authority, learning needs, mini projects, practice, feedback and review dates.

Every step should produce an artefact: report, portfolio, prototype, observation record, assessment, workplace review or official qualification. Completing courses alone is not evidence of progression.

SIX STAGES

From starting point to sustainable development

From starting point to sustainable development table
StageQuestionEvidence
1. Starting pointWhat knowledge and experience exist now?Work sample, study record and self-assessment
2. RequirementsWhat authority, degree or prerequisite is required?Official source and date
3. Mini trialWhat can resemble the real task?First artefact and error log
4. PracticeWho can provide feedback?Placement, project or supervised practice
5. TransitionWhat evidence is missing for the first real role?Portfolio, qualification, application file
6. RenewalHow are tasks and technology changing?Annual task-skill update
90-DAY PLAN

Small progress that produces evidence

In the first 30 days verify tasks and entry conditions; choose two occupation profiles, two education routes and one mini trial. During Days 31–60 complete the trial, obtain feedback and build a second version. During Days 61–90 create a portfolio note, next learning step and application or practice plan.

At the end, answer three questions instead of “which occupation did I choose?” Which task could I sustain? Which environment did not fit? What unknown could most change the next decision?

Produce free and low-cost evidence before buying resources.

Second version

The change after feedback should be visible in the portfolio.

Review date

Review the route no later than 90 days.

DEEPENING

Route-specific evidence and risk plan

Lifelong learning is not random course accumulation. Sequence changing tasks, skill gaps, a small application, workplace feedback and measurable outcomes. Also record which existing skills remain valuable.

Add a risk record to the route: an assumption that may fail, early warning sign, low-cost test and alternative step. This allows direction to change at the small-evidence stage rather than after substantial time and money have been spent.

At each month end select four outputs: a concrete artefact, feedback received, a closed knowledge gap and one critical question still open. If none exists, the route is not progressing; content is only being consumed.

Date and source are compulsory in the route file. When examination, visa, licence, accreditation, scholarship, fee or employment conditions change, retain the earlier record and add the new information and change date.

  • One critical assumption and low-cost test
  • One concrete artefact or practice record
  • One expert, teacher or workplace feedback item
  • One alternative route and transition condition
  • A review date no later than 30 days
APPLICATION

30–60–90 day practice laboratory

The first 30-day output for this route should be changing task, skill gap, mini application and workplace outcome. Once completed, obtain feedback from a practitioner or teacher using three prewritten criteria rather than a general opinion: accuracy, resemblance to real work and clarity of the next step.

During the second 30 days, compare two education or practice routes toward the same aim. Record time, cost, access, official conditions, evidence produced and exit cost. The longest or most expensive route is not automatically the strongest.

During the final 30 days, turn the mini application into a real presentation: an anonymised case, portfolio page, technical report, research poster, process board or safe prototype. Do not include sensitive information or regulated practice; state boundaries clearly.

At Day 90 mark the route continue, change or pause. Include evidence used, largest uncertainty, alternative route and next review date. This record keeps the reasoning behind future decisions visible.

  • Day 30: first task evidence and criteria-based feedback
  • Day 60: time–cost–evidence comparison of two routes
  • Day 90: safe, shareable outcome
  • Decision: continue, change or pause
  • New review date and source version
RISKS AND ALTERNATIVES

Do not depend on one path

Examinations, costs, health, visas, quotas, workplaces or family circumstances can change. Every route should include at least two alternatives that approach the same aim through different timing or evidence.

An alternative is not an inferior route. Associate study, vocational education, open-source projects, volunteering, workplace learning or another degree may produce more suitable evidence for some tasks.

MICRO QUIZ

Can you distinguish the real tasks?

1. What is the main output of a career route?

A living file showing tasks, evidence, conditions and the next step—not a title.

2. Why is course completion insufficient?

It does not show independent output resembling real work or feedback.

3. Why keep the 90-day plan small?

To test weak assumptions early and at low cost.

4. When should alternatives be prepared?

At the start, before the main route is disrupted.

5. When is the route updated?

When task evidence, official conditions or life circumstances change, and no later than the review date.

KEEP YOUR PLAN CURRENT

When should you revisit your plan?

Revisit your plan when a new examination or guide is published, when costs change, when a small trial gives a strong positive or negative signal, when a teacher or mentor gives feedback, or when your circumstances change. Even if nothing changes, it is a good habit to review it about once a month.

When you revisit, read your earlier decision first and note which expectations held and which fell short. That way, every new interest does not reset your whole plan, but you can still change direction when there is strong new evidence.
